Lance Armstrong - Ironman

It's a banner day.  As a big fan of Lance Armstrong, and a lover of triathlon I have long yearned for the day the two would collide.

We all know Lance was a talented triathlete before his cycling diversion...  but that was a LONG time ago.  I don't even think I knew what a triathlon was back then.

It's funny because when I was in Hawaii and planning my conversation with Lance I toyed with the idea of asking him about Ironman (since we were both riding the Ironman course)...  I decided I couldn't ask him in case he said, "Has your head been in the sand?  I am doing the TOUR!...  sheesh, buy a newspaper!"  Regardless, I never got the chance.... but maybe I would have had a big scoop.

Now it seems I will get the chance to see Lance compete at Ironman.  And, he has said:

"I don't want to approach it like I approached marathons.  I want to do it as fast as I can."

You can read the whole article HERE.

P.S.  How'd you like the photoshop work up there....

UPDATE: It has been suggested that since I took the time to adorn Lance's pec with the M-Dot tattoo using photoshop that I "have too much time on my hands...". Ridiculous. With my jedi like computer skillz it takes but a second.

I bet he will get a special invite into hawaii without having to qualify.

I'm pumped, but more than anything I think we will be further amazed at the incredible fitness of the ironman pro's as was seen when a previous cyclist turn triathlete Jaja did his first ironman.

OK, I'm a total pussy and will stop whining about my little sprained ankle and how I can't run right now:)
Other than Ironman on TV... biathlon, nordic skiing, downhill and curling HAVE to be thee best shiz in the winter olympics. Tennessee isn't conducive, I suck at skiing (any kind but I like it) and I like to shoot em up too! That is rock solid.

It's funny how he has changed his mind on this. Up until now, he always swore he would never do an Ironman. And yes, Jalabert didn't do very well. But Jalabert wasn't a former triathlon national champion and didn't win the Tour seven times. I wouldn't take Lance lightly if I was the other pros. Nobody on the planet has the engine Lance does, and a 3-hour marathon (which he did with almost no training) might be enough after he destroys the Ironman bike course record - which is almost a given for him.

If nothing else, it sure would be something to watch.

I tend to agree with Chad's analysis on this one.... I have to believe it will all depend on how hard Lance trains though - at 40 he will be a little past prime time...

I also kind of hope he will go through the qualifying procedure like everyone else... but we'll see.

Like Chad says though, "It sure would be something to watch."

What's that about Jalabert doing badly at Ironmans? 68 professional Ironman athletes beating an over-the-hill ex-cyclist doing some sports to kill his time. How many in front of him were older?

Seems like Lance will be losing less time swimming than Jalabert. And we can only expect him to ride faster. With some marathons already under the belt, he'll probably only improve on his marathon times there.

Lance will be a factor in the 40+ age group...
