lululemon athletica - and Contest Details!

Hands down one of the best parts of being an athlete is surrounding yourself with a great team. It takes some time to figure out what that means and how to do it... but once the pieces start to come together you can really feel the support.

Over the last few years I have been very fortunate to work with some great sponsors and supporters.  Innovative Fitness, CanWi Multisport, The Bike Gallery, Cypress Mountain, Rudy Project and DHL have all been amazing contributors to my training and racing.

I am proud to announce that in 2009 I will be a lululemon Ambassador.  As I am sure many of you know lululemon is a Vancouver success story.  Started right here in our backyard by Chip Wilson, lululemon now has over 100 stores - in North America, Australia and Hong Kong.

The thing that really impressed me about lululemon was the company culture.  Example:  What was the last lululemon ad you saw?  Exactly.  They don't really advertise.  Why?  As it was explained to me:  They put the money into community initiatives like the Ambassador program and others as a way to get the word out and get people active - hopefully wearing their great styles.

That's cool...  and just one example.

They also have a manifesto.  "Ahemmm....  What's a manifesto?" you ask?  Please see below and CLICK TO ENLARGE.

I don't know for sure, but I bet it would be a lot easier to just sell clothes than it is to try to change people's attitudes at the same time.  You have to admire an organization that sends messages like these AND backs them up by making a real effort to add value to the community.  That is what the Ambassador program is about and one of the reasons why I think it is a good fit for me.  Apart from the obvious reward of cool clothing ;)  I have discovered that the most rewarding thing (for me) is hearing someone say "You inspired me to try ______."

So, it will be a lot of fun to get involved with the local lululemon store's staff and customers.  I will keep you all up-to-date on any events coming up....

In the meantime I think we ought to celebrate with a little giveaway.  PRIZES galore - right here folks!

WAYS TO WIN:  Leave a comment on this blog with your favourite message from the lululemon manifesto.  MJR 'Followers' or 'Subscribers' who comment get two entries so sign up now!  (See the right hand column.)

I will draw two names (1 woman, 1 man) - and they will win:

Ladies: Men:

You can click on these items for alternate views or just take my word that these are awesome!

SO!  Get your wife, husband, girlfriend, boyfriend to enter too....  you might both win!

I will draw in a week (or so....)  Stay Tuned!

Do one thing a day that scares you.

Hey MJ - are we going to see you down at Kits beach in summer wearing one of those Yoga onsies?

You deserve to have a great team - keep up the great work!

I have two.. does this mean I get two names in the draw?

Great news about the sponsership! You total deserve it because you totally inspire!!

Congratulations!...good for you!
Sing, Dance, Floss, Travel: I do a lot of flossing for some weird reason and have floss everywhere...and need any justification I can get to stave off the ridicule from my friends and family! (I also like to sing and dance and sadly the same story applies!)

My favourite is "Dance, Sing, Floss and Travel."

A good attitude can encompass so many of the other lessons.

Congrats on the sponsorship.

You've found your champagne reason!

Dead center. "Friends are more important than money."

Which is good because I have very little money!!

Congrats!

Congrats on the new sponsor!

Before saying my favorite I want to point out one I didn't really like:
"The persuit of happiness is the source of all unhappiness."
Thats kinda depressing because I like to think that if you simply focus your life on being happy and not on the little things, that everything should fall into place.

Now for my favorite quote other than Dance, Sing, Floss and Travel:

That which matters most should never give way to that which matters least.

Its simple and to the point!

Oh yeah, I forgot the manifesto part...Friends are more important than money. Definitely.

Right now, this one has a lot of meaning to me:
"Life is full of setbacks. Success is determined how you handle setbacks."

It's pretty close to a quote by Plutarch: "The measure of a man is the way he bears up under misfortune".

I like those.

Listen, listen, listen manifesto is my favourite. Just think if we all got out of our heads and really listened to the other person, child, etc. How giving of ourselves that would be and there is no better than feeling than giving...maybe running a marathon, but that's not happening in my world...no.. giving from your soul is the best!!!

Cool competition to get people motivated and congrats on your new role!

A close second is:

Breathe deeply and appreciate the moment. Living in the moment could be the meaning of life.

And thank you so much for alearting me to the fact that there are Lululemon stores in Australia! I did not know that.

Hi Meyrick...great snag. Did you know that a North Shore girl (Amrita Sondhi) was one of the co-creators of Lululemon?
I have read the lulu bag many times and for the first time noticed this one:

"Children are the orgasm of life!"

I bet you can't beat that!

My pick is "listen, listen, listen and then ask strategic questions".

My wife owns a lot of Lululemon but, alas, I have none :(

Does this help my cause?

Not sure if this is going to appear twice, but technically as an RSS subscriber I get a second bite of the cherry, right?

My pick is "listen, listen, listen and then ask strategic questions".

Meyrick: Congrats on being an ambassador. What a cool gig!

My favourite:
Breathe deeply and appreciate the moment. Living in the moment could be the meaning of life.

Works especially well when all 3 kids are asking a question at the same time and screaming MOM at the top of their lungs.

"Life is full of setbacks. Success is determined by how you handle setbacks." This one is very close to home for obvious reasons. Congrats, as always, your outgoing personality is inspiring, maybe in Montreal, some of that will rub off on me.

I do like

"Do something that scares you everyday"

I make an effort to remind myself to step out of my comfort zone in some way.

Kind of have 2 fav quotes:

Breathe deeply and appreciate the moment. Living in the moment could be the meaning of life.

Successful replace the words 'wish' 'should' and 'try' with 'I will.'

All the best to you with your training for 2009.

My life has sure been full of them, but I have been handling them quite well. Also, I went to the lululemon store the other day in La Costa, and they give free Pilates and Yoga classes. :)

Btw congrats on everything even the setbacks that hopefully you'll post so we can learn from them, along with the successes.

"Listen, listen, listen and then ask strategic questions" is my favourite. Everyone has an interesting life story if only you take the time to ask.

Congratulations on being a lululemon Ambassador!

I adore my Lulus. The most forgiving, hard working and long lasting clothing I own!

Live near the ocean and inhale the pure salt air that flows over the water. Vancouver will do nicely.

Very therapeutic...ifthey could just bottle it...

dance, sing, floss and travel.

The CDA in me is always proud to see that on the manifesto!!

Congrats Meyrick

I'm a big fan of Lulu's...(first saw them on Tracey...lol)

Meyrick...definitely "Creativity is maximized when you're living in the moment"...My job right now is all about being present and not holding on. The other part for me is "Breathe deeply....." that has served me well over the years.
