Detour

I'm not sure if that is a detour sign but let's assume it is (because Google images says so, and I like how it looks...)

The phone rang a few days ago with a call from the ParaCycling National Team coach.  As it turns out they are having a Nationals prep camp...  this time in Bromont, Quebec.

He was kind enough to invite me.

Problem:  It is at the same time as Escape from Alcatraz.

Solution:  None.

No drama, no four letter words - just stating that whichever I choose I will be missing out on the other and that sucks.

After determining that I had been check-mated by this little conflict I had to make a decision...  I can turn this into a huge debate about what the hell I am doing with my life, or I can just go with my gut (after only a momentary debate about what the hell I am doing with my life*.)

If Escape was a one-time event there would be no question...  but since it happens every year, I think it is prudent to put the next piece in place with my cycling.

Decision:  That means Bromont.  More details in a future post...

*by "life" I mean "sporting life", if I were to debate what I am doing with my real life it would require far more space and the services of a qualified professional.

That is awesome! Congrats on the invite! Sometimes you have to go with your gut and not stress out about what you decided not to do. I'm excited to hear about the details!

Bromont is really nice. Somehow I've managed to never go, however, pretty much every cyclist I know from Montreal has gone and loved it. Have a great time!

And I agree with your decision, Alcatraz happens every year so your not really missing out.

As I was reading your post, the exact same thought hit me. Alcatraz is there every year. Getting invited to a national training camp may be a once in a lifetime opportunity for you. Go for it!

I don't know if I should be excited or bummed for you. What is "life" anyway? just keep moving forward and be happy at the end of the day that you are part of an amazing thing.... healthy living!!!
